She is interested in pottery and is a contributing editor to Open City literary magazine. Posey can also play the mandolin and as part of her role in A Mighty Wind (2003), she played this instrument and also sang. She has also used her vocal talents on certain records of her ex-boyfriend, Ryan Adams.

She attended Purchase College where she roomed with fellow actress Sherry Stringfield and, like Stringfield, her first role was on a soap opera. In Posey's case, it was on As the World Turns.

Her first lead role was in Party Girl (1995). She would later go on to prove her dramatic merit with critically-lauded films like Personal Velocity, and Clockwatchers. She has appeared in three of Christopher Guest's mock documentaries: Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), and is currently filming a fourth, For Your Consideration.

Her big budget studio films include Scream 3 (2000), You've Got Mail (1998), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), and Blade: Trinity (2004). She has also had a recurring role on Will & Grace as Jack's boss at Barney's.

Her next role will be an assistant to villain Lex Luthor in Superman Returns (2006).

Parker lives on the west side in New York. She dated Ryan Adams, though they broke up in early 2005.
