Biography of LaLa

Alani Vásquez (also known as "La La Vasquez" born in June 25, 1979, in Brooklyn, New York) is a MTV VJ and TV personality of Puerto Rican descent.

Vásquez' parents met and married in New York and soon settled in the borough of Brooklyn where she was born. There she received her primary and secondary education; as a young child, she was involved in many activities; however, music was her main interest. Her mother divorced and re-married, providing Vasquez with her half-sisters Erica and Christian. After the new births, the family moved to Georgia.

In Atlanta, Vasquez obtained a job as a programming assistant at WHTA-FM radio station. After working for some time at the station, she decided to attend college and relocated to Washington, D.C., where she attended Howard University and studied communications studies. While attending college, she worked as a discjockey for that institution's radio station. Vasquez subsequently returned to Atlanta, and there she received her first big break when she debuted in a radio show alongside Ludacris, called Future Flavas.

In 1999, she moved to Los Angeles, California, and went to work for KKBT-FM radio. There she was noticed by MTV and was invited to audition, although was not called back until a year later in 2003. She is currently the host for TRL, Direct Effect, MTV2 Hip Hop, and Ladies Night mix show on Hot 97.

Vasquez has also appeared in:

"Hot In There",
"Oh Boy",
"Drops Top Bentley" and
"Famed Invita"
Vasquez made her cinema debut in 2001 as "Bobby the DJ" in "Two Can Play That Game" starring Vivica A. Fox and Morris Chestnut. In 2002 she participated in the film "Urban Massacre" as "Pam Jackson". She also made a cameo in Fat Joe's music video for "So Much More". She has a supporting role as herself in 2004's "You Got Served". She was also featured in a sketch on Chappelle's Show: The Lost Episodes.

On December 25, 2004, she became engaged to NBA basketball star Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets. She is currently the co-host of MTV's Direct Effect and Total Request Live.
