Jodie Marsh (born 23 December 1978) is best known for working as a topless 'model' and as a Page Three girl.
She was born in Brentwood, Essex in the United Kingdom. Her father ran a successful scaffolding business which allowed her to enjoy an affluent lifestyle. She has a younger brother named, ironically, Jordan. In her autobiography she jokingly adds that he was an "accident".
She went to Brentwood School in Essex, and says that she was subjected to such bad bullying that she contemplated suicide.(This comment must be balanced by the fact that the school she attended and pupils who knew her deny the claims) Today she is a supporter of the anti-bullying charity Beatbullying. She left school with 10 GCSEs (all A and B grades). She also has 3 A-levels.
Marsh had surgery on her nose at the age of 15, resulting in a ski-jump like tip. Rival glamour-model Jordan has described her nose as resembling "a builder's elbow" and likened her breasts to a spaniel's ears. Marsh retorted that Jordan's nose was as hooked as a witch's. She was once turned down as a Page Three girl and has the rejection letter framed.
She was featured on the poorly rated reality TV show Essex Wives and consequently landed a topless contract.
Marsh is known for having arguments with other models, most notably Jordan, and a string of staged high-profile relationships widely reported in the British tabloid newspapers, including club boss Fran Cosgrave, male model Calum Best, Westlife singer Kian Egan and ex-Blazin' Squad singer and Celebrity Big Brother 2005 runner-up James McKenzie.
She has taken part in a variety of reality TV shows, including Trust Me I'm A Holiday Repwhere she refused to follow the rules of the show and claimed, again, to have been bullied by the staff, no other member of the team had any problem. (with other celebs such as Syd Little), Channel 4's The Games and Sky One's terrible Celebrity Penthouse.
In January 2006, she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. She quickly caused controversy amongst the housemates, notably Pete Burns, Michael Barrymore and George Galloway. Her extremely lurid sexual comments and perverted actions ruffled the more respected 'celebrities' and saw treatment which led to complaints of bullying by some viewers and seen as manipulation by others. She appeared, however, to establish a close friendship with fellow housemate Chantelle Houghton, a client of Max Clifford. On Friday 13th January, Jodie was first to be voted out of the Big Brother house - with 8 out of 10 possible nominations from her fellow housemates and 41% of the public vote the highest negative vote in Big Brother history. She broke down and cried during her post-eviction interview with Davina McCall describing the experience as 'horrific'. As part of a task in the house, Jodie had to take an unofficialIQ test. Davina told her in the interview that she had scored 136, higher than average under normal circimstances.
She regularly updates her blog on her self publicising website Which she has used to have a go at other BB housemates and led to MP's calling for her to be stripped of any association with PETA - quote from the MP - An MP has claimed that Jodie Marsh should be dropped as the ambassador of an anti-bullying campaign.
Lib-Dem education spokesman Phil Willis, a former headmaster, and other MP's and charity advisors are furious after learning that the model is touring schools to give advice on behalf of Beatbullying. He believes that insulting comments made by Marsh on her website prove that she is a bully herself. "We looked at her web log and what she has written about her Big Brother housemates is just appalling. It is the language of an appalling bully," Willis said. "Is this really somebody we want to send in to schools? We are really descending to the lowest common denominator when we are putting people like her on a pedestal."
