Ellen Philpotts-Page, born February 21, 1987 and now known professionally as Ellen Page, is a Canadian actress, most notable for her starring role in Hard Candy, and with her highest-profile role to date being Shadowcat in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. Previously she had received attention, particularly in her native Canada, for award-winning roles in Pit Pony and Marion Bridge, and the TV shows Trailer Park Boys and Regenesis. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Page started her drama training at the Neptune Theatre School. She began her acting career at the age of 11 in a made-for-TV film (which would later be made into a series) called Pit Pony. This led to roles in a number of small Canadian films and television series. At age 16 she was cast in an independent film shot in Europe, Mouth to Mouth, which solidified her place among the most talented young actors in Canada. Page graduated from the Shambhala School in 2005 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and plans to work next on The Basement (also noted as An American Crime), based on the true story of Sylvia Likens, opposite Catherine Keener.
