Bonnie Kathleen Wright (born February 17, 1991) is an English actress, most famous for her role in the Harry Potter films as Ginny Weasley. She was born in London, England, to Gary Wright and Sheila Teague Wright. She has an older brother, Lewis. Wright enjoys dance, art, traveling, and playing musical instruments like the piano, guitar, saxophone, and recorder, as well as sports such as football, swimming, tennis, riding, ice skating and cycling. Wright is tutored during filming because she has yet to finish school, being only 15 years. Bonnie Wright was originally cast as Ginny Weasley for a small scene in the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), set in King's Cross. Her role became more prominent with the second movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), in which her character begins studies at Hogwarts while dealing with a very powerful secret diary that begins to seize her soul and consciousness. Wright's role in the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), was significantly smaller, leaving her with only one line of dialogue. However, the character became a bonafide supporting character in the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), with dialogue sprinkled across several scenes and perhaps the most screentime yet. She confirmed at the London premiere of Goblet of Fire that she would be returning for the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, due for release in 2007. In the book, Wright's character becomes more prominent yet and it is expected that her screen role will follow suit. [1] It has not been announced whether Wright will be reprising her role as Ginny Weasley in the sixth and seventh Harry Potter films, where her character becomes somewhat of a lead character in the sixth (the seventh novel is yet unpublished). In recent interviews she has said she would be interested in continuing her role. Wright has also starred in two television movies: 2002's Stranded and 2004's Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures.
