Vicky Cristina Barcelona is an upcoming 2008 film by Academy Award-winning director Woody Allen. The title was announced by The Hollywood Reporter on October 19, 2007. This is Allen's fourth film in a row to be shot outside the United States and his first to shoot in Spain. The film was shot in Avilés, Barcelona and Oviedo. In 2007 there arose a controversy in Catalonia due to the film being funded with public money: Barcelona's city hall is providing one million euros and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Autonomous Government) half a million — 10 percent of the film's budget. The film premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival in May 2008. The Catalan actor Joan Pera, who has dubbed Allen's voice in his previous films, has a cameo role. This is the third film that Scarlett Johansson and Woody Allen have worked together. The other two films are Match Point and Scoop. |
