Under the Tuscan Sun is a 2003 film directed by Audrey Wells. It is based on a book by Frances Mayes. Tagline: Life offers you a thousand chances ... all you have to do is take one. Frances Mayes is a 35-year-old San Francisco writer whose perfect life has just taken an unexpected detour. Her recent divorce has left her with terminal writer's block and extremely depressed, and her best friend, Patti, is beginning to think she might never recover. Patti convinces Frances to take an Italian holiday on a gay tour. While stopping in a small town she sees a notice about villa for sale. The next day the tour bus passes the villa and she has the driver stop so she can explore the house. In a series of serendipitous events she becomes the owner of a lovely yet dilapidated villa in beautiful Tuscany, Italy. From this point her life begins anew with a variety of interesting characters and odd but gentle souls. She assembles a crew of mostly Polish immigrants to repair the house. Over the next year, she welcomes her San Francisco friend who is pregnant and at loose ends. Eventually, she finds the fulfillment she was searching for in a wedding at the villa. The movie ends with the possibility of a new love in her life. |
