Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny is a movie starring Tenacious D, a band that features Jack Black and Kyle Gass. It is directed by musician and puppeteer Liam Lynch. The film was released on November 22, 2006. The film has been rated 'R' by the MPAA for Pervasive Language, Sexual Content, and Drug Use. It also stars Lee from the TV show Tenacious D, and Ben Stiller (also one of the film's producers) as Guitar Store Dude. The film also features Dave Grohl as the devil, Ronnie James Dio as himself as well as rock legend Meat Loaf as Jack Black's father, and comedians Paul F. Tompkins and Neil Hamburger. According to Variety, an advance screening was held in late December 2005, but audience reaction was poor. The ending — a tribute to The Blues Brothers — was "misunderstood" by the audience members who disliked it, and was re-filmed. The first six minutes of the movie recently leaked, being available before the initial release of the movie. In Venice Beach, naive Midwesterner JB (Black) bonds with local slacker KG (Gass) and they form the rock band Tenacious D. Setting out to become the world's greatest band is no easy feat, so they set out to steal what could be the answer to their prayers -- a magical guitar pick housed in a rock-and-roll museum some 300 miles away. The soundtrack, which will double as the band's second album, includes vocals by Ronnie James Dio and Meat Loaf. Dave Grohl also returns to provide drums on the album, as he did on their first album, Tenacious D (2001), and vocals on one track. |
