Stepmom is an American film made in 1998. The film is a comedy-drama directed by Chris Columbus. The film starred Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. Tagline: Be there for the joy. Be there for the tears. Be there for each other. Set in the busy streets of New York, Jackie (Susan Sarandon) and Luke (Ed Harris) are a divorced couple struggling to keep their children Anna (Jena Malone) and Ben (Liam Aiken) happy with this sudden change of lifestyle. Luke for some time has been dating and is living with his new girlfriend Isabel (Julia Roberts) who is a successful photographer. Isabel tries very hard to make Anna and Ben feel comfortable and happy around her but the kids (more Anna than Ben) are very harsh and rude to her. Jackie also treats Isabel very coldly. After a long string of arguments and hurt feelings between Isabel, Jackie and Anna, Luke proposes to Isabel, making her Anna and Ben's official stepmom. This causes even more friction between the two children (who want their parents back together) and Isabel. However just when it feels like things can't get any worse Jackie is diagnosed with cancer, which she is told she could possibly die from. This shocking news causes a lot of tears and teaches everyone a lot of lessons about love, family and strength. |
