Movie Review

Something New is a 2006 romance film, written by Kriss Turner and directed by Sanaa Hamri. This film stars Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker. This film is rated PG-13 by MPAA for sexual references.

As of February 12, 2006, the film grossed a total of 8.2 million dollars in the domestic Box Office.

A romantic comedy about interracial relationships, chronicling Kenya McQueen, (Sanaa Lathan of The Best Man, Brown Sugar, and Love & Basketball fame), a successful African American accountant, and her blind date, Brian Kelly's (Simon Baker, L.A. Confidential, The Ring Two, Red Planet) unexpected union. Kelly, a sexy, free-spirited, white landscaper turns out to be not exactly what she'd pictured for herself.

Then again, she does need the yard of her new house fixed up... Her girlfriends Cheryl (Wendy Raquel Robinson, The Steve Harvey Show, Suzzette (Golden Brooks, Girlfriends) and Nedra (Taraji P. Henson, Hustle & Flow) are there for her with advice, while Cheryl's new beau Walter (Mike Epps, Next Friday) shares a male perspective with Brian.

Kenya's socially prominent parents Joyce (Alfre Woodard, Desperate Housewives) and Edmond (Earl Billings, Antwone Fisher) and womanizing younger brother Nelson (Donald Faison, Clueless) also voice their own opinions. But it's when her perfect match, Mark (Blair Underwood, L.A. Law) enters the picture that Kenya is truly thrown into confusion. Ultimately, Kenya has to decide for herself and follow her heart - no matter where it takes her.
