Movie Review

Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. is a 1991 comedic superhero film released by Troma Entertainment, similar to The Toxic Avenger. The film is about a New York City Police Department officer who by chance receives the powers of a dying kabuki master and with the kabuki's daughter, must defeat an evil force who will stop at nothing to gain the power. The movie has Troma's trademark over-the-top and at times edgy humour.

The film's title character made several appearances after the film's initial release. He appears prominently as one of the heroes who is brought in to stop the menace of the Noxious Offender (posing as the Toxic Avenger) in Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger Part IV. He also appears in a short parody of old public service announcement films, called Sgt. Kabukiman Public Service Announcement, which was directed by James Gunn, who would later write the screenplays for the Scooby Doo films and direct the movie Slither. He was also one of the characters in the short-lived television series, Troma's Edge TV. In these subsequent appearances, the part is recast and played by Paul Krymse.
