Movie Review

See No Evil is a 2006 horror film directed by Gregory Dark, written by Dan Madigan, produced by Joel Simon, and starring professional wrestler Kane (Glen Jacobs). The movie was produced by WWE Films and was released by Lions Gate Films on May 19, 2006.

The film went through many different working titles before the final title of See No Evil was chosen. The original working title of the film was Eye Scream Man, but was later changed to Goodnight before settling on See No Evil.

According the the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jacobs has signed a contract to act in a sequel for the movie.

The MPAA gave the movie an R rating for strong gruesome violence and gore throughout, language, sexual content and some drug use.

A group of delinquents with a police officer clean the Blackwell Hotel to fill their community service. Unfortunately for the group, they are not aware that psychopath Jacob Goodnight (Kane) is also in the hotel. The psychopath is a man shot by the officer, and has a rusty steel plate screwed in his head and sharp blade-like fingernails. Goodnight locks them in and begins to hunt them down.

This is the first movie to be released by WWE Film productions, thus WWE has been adamant about promoting the movie. WWE currently has a storyline involving Kane being haunted by something that will happen on May 19, the release date of the movie. Kane is so paranoid about the date, that he attacks anyone who he hears say the date, including his tag team partner The Big Show. On the May 8 edition of WWE RAW, three co-stars of See No Evil were interviewed by Todd Grisham. They all talked about how Kane was so hard to work with and how his on-screen movie murders made him happy. During this segment Todd asked a male co-star, Michael Pagan, about the release date of the movie. Unaware of Kane's reaction to it, Michael then went on to say the date, which caused Kane to come into the segment and make the two female co-stars, Christina Vidal and Samantha Noble, scream in terror while Kane choked Pagan to the ground.

Recently, there was a red carpet ceremony for the release date of the movie involving world-wide members of the media as well as various other WWE superstars. Many interviews have been given to superstars, including Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Kurt Angle, Candice Michelle, Chris Benoit and Chris Masters, all commenting on the movie.

A segment on WWE RAW showed footage from inside the movie theatre while the movie was playing. Footage was shown of the audience cringing, hiding and covering their eyes during the movie. Interviews were later given to members of the audience, which had members of the audience describing their experience. Some said they couldn't watch it, others said they cringed; most reviews were positive.

WWE used the release date of the movie as a snap to Kane because they wanted people to remember the date. Kane later revealed that the reason he hated the date May 19 was because "his family was killed on that day in a tragic accident". WWE waited until after the movie was released for Kane to tell (even though anyone who remembered Kane's older days in the WWE would know that this was a reference to the death of his family).

Critics have generally given the movie bad reviews, questioning how scary the film actually is. As of June 5 on Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a 6% rating out of 48 reviews. However, www.horrorchannel.com gave See No Evil a 4/5 rating.

The movie opened with an estimated $4.35 million in box office sales for that weekend. The film was sixth in the weekend box office totals. After two weeks, the movie stood at over $9.8 million, thus turning over a 2 million dollar profit. The movie currently stands at $12.3 million.
