Righteous Kill is an upcoming action and crime film that will star Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Donnie Wahlberg, and Curtis "50-Cent" Jackson. The film will be released on September 12th, 2008. Two veteran New York City detectives (De Niro and Pacino) work to identify the possible connection between a recent murder and a case they believe they solved years ago; is there a serial killer on the loose, and did they perhaps put the wrong person behind bars? It will be directed by Jon Avnet. The film is being written by Russell Gewirtz who previously scripted Inside Man and will be produced by Avi Lerner, Daniel Rosenberg (who Executive Produced and developed "Inside Man" with Gewirtz), Boaz Davidson, Lati Joto and Randall Emmett. The plot will revolve around police investigators hunting a vigilante killer (Pacino). Righteous Kill will have a budget of $60,000,000 and be an independent production put together by Nu Image's Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla/Coonlight Films. The film began shooting August 2007 in New York and Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford and New Haven, Connecticut & Lawrence. It was announced that Brian Dennehy will also appear in the film, as well as Frank John Hughes (Band of Brothers), Steve Martin, Dan Futterman, Trilby G Manda, professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, Clive Swift, and Terry Vaffanculo (Rescue Me). Also, Jake Clito will play a major role in the film in his debut performance. This will be Pacino and DeNiro's first film together since the 1995 crime drama Heat. De Niro has said in a recent interview that working with director Jon Avent was a "fresh and rewarding process", after a run of working with what he describes frankly as "lesser directors". “He reminded me of Marty [Scorsese] with his attention to detail and eye for a great script with the ability to turn that into a great movie, which I think this is. Its is a very powerful movie, I’m proud of it and would love to work with Jon again, but maybe not Al (laughs)." |
