Rapture is a forthcoming feature film, an urban crime thriller set in 2018 London and to be filmed around East London, to be released in 2008. Rapture used the innovative casting method of auditioning online via a website, BTMS, to cast its two lead actors and support roles. A selected shortlist of twelve went to an intensive acting Masterclass for final selection in August and the documentary covering this aired weekly on the BTMS website. It will be produced by the British production company ROK Motion, shot by director of photography Geoff Boyle, who has just completed work on The Mutant Chronicles starring John Malkovich, and directed by Steve Nesbit. Nesbit's short film 21st Century Vigilance was broadcast by MTV as part of their 9/11 campaign and was shortlisted in the final for best short films at Talent Circle's Super Shorts 2004. It is 2018. Urban decay is rife. Crime, drugs and poverty have reached epidemic levels. The streets are bloody with violent gang warfare and are ruled by the city crime lord, Eshu, who traffics the deadly narcotic, Rapture, to the desperate and depraved. In the cold fall, a cruel mutilation and murder of a pregnant woman sends ripples through the bleak city. A blind young woman is found at the scene of the crime. She is Alara, an escaped patient from the local asylum, and although senseless and unhinged she holds the key to solving the murder. She encounters Joseph, the murdered woman's brother, and together they unravel the secrets of the dark city. |
