Rachel Getting Married is an upcoming Jonathan Demme film set for a 2008 release. The film stars Anne Hathaway, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Academy Award nominee Debra Winger. The film was recently annouced to compete for the Venice Film Festival's top prestigious prize, the Golden Lion. The film has yet to have a release date. When Kym (Anne Hathaway), an ex-model who has been in and out from rehab for the past 10 years, returns home for the wedding of her sister Rachel (Rosemarie DeWitt), she brings a long history of personal crisis and family conflict along with her. The wedding party's abundant cast of friends and relations have gathered for an idyllic weekend of feasting, music and love, but Kym with her black-comic one-liners and knack for bombshell drama is a catalyst for long-simmering tensions in the family dynamic. The film is directed by Jonathan Demme, and was shot in Stamford, Connecticut. The original title of the film was Dancing with Shiva, but was changed to Rachel Getting Married. The film will open in the 65th edition of the Venice Film Festival, where it will be among twenty-one others films competing for the top prize, the Golden Lion. Other Hollywood films that the film will be competing with include, The Wrestler, and The Burning Plain. The film will also open in Canada's Toronto Film Festival. |
