  One Night With The King
Movie Review

One Night with the King is a film that was released in 2006 in the United States. It was based on the novel Hadassah: One Night with the King by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olsen. The movie was produced by Matt Crouch of Gener8Xion Entertainment.

One Night with the King is an interpretation of the Old Testament Bible story of Esther, who risked her life by approaching the king to request that he save the Jewish people.

The film was reasonably faithful to the Biblical narrative, the gist of the story was not changed. The relationship between Esther and Xerxes, however, was filled with mistrust and misunderstanding that makes for a good "chick flick," but is not found in the original Biblical story nor in the the novel upon which the film was based. Much palace intrigue is added to the film as well. The necklace displaying the Star of David under certain light conditions that both hides and reveals Esther's Jewish heritage is a creation of the filmmakers.

The movie was filmed entirely in Rajasthan, India.

Opening weekend the film merited over US$4 million

Visually gorgeous, clumsy execution.

As of November, 2006, the movie had been awarded four Doves by the Dove Foundation and received the Dove Family-Approved Seal.

In the article Esther, there is an extensive list of the modern telling and retelling of this story. The disambiguation page also has a wealth of related links and articles.

The Genius Club from writer/director Tim Chey was also released theatrically in 2006. The film's trailers showed before One Night With The King.
