Mohanlal as Puthenveetil Gopalakrishna Pillai has taken the viewers by storm. His introduction scene in a 'Pooja room' where he chants in his own voice " Ganesha saranam, saranam ganesha…" is making the crowd go into a frenzy.

The punchline dialogue- Njaan aayitu aarkum budhimutuundakulla.Veruthe budhimuttuundakiyal athu budhimuttuaakume, athu thangathilla ketto, has become extremly popular with the general public. And both the songs - Kalyanakacheri… and Amma Mazhakarunu.., have become super hits.

Gopalakrishnan Pillai (Mohanlal) is a money-lender in a village. People misunderstand him to be money-minded, without having any emotional bond even towards his mother or younger brother Ramakrishnan Pillai (Ajmal). There are other story elements that are typical to Mohanlal films like the enemies in the form of a feudal family, as well as people, who know he is a do-gooder.

As the story moves along, we learn more about our hero. He is hard-hearted, as he was thrown out his father (Sai Kumar) when he was a teenager for his wayward lifestyle. His mother (KPAC Lalitha) hates him for doing that and his brother hates him because he does not let his brother pursue his dream of being an actor.

There are other conflicts like the stock of rivals in the form of Siddique and his younger brothers. Then, there is more rivalry in the form of Jayalakshmi(Kavya Madhavan), a bank manager.

Jagathy plays Mohanlal's leagal advisor & Innocent Plays The Karayogam President.Others in the cast include Kiran Raj ,Vijay Kumar , Sriraman , Kollam Thulasi , Malika Kapoor & Suraj Venjaramoodu.

Director B.Unnikrishnan's second film and his first blockbuster.His first venture Smart City staring Suresh Gopi was a flop.

The film broke all the existing initial collection records in Kerala.
