Movie Review

Jalsa (Telugu: జల్సా, English translation: Fun) is a 2008 Telugu film directed by Trivikram Srinivas, who returns after directing the hit Athadu, and produced by Allu Aravind, under the Geetha Arts banner. The film stars Pawan Kalyan, Ileana D'Cruz and Parvati Melton in pivotal roles. The soundtrack of the film, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, was launched on February 29, 2008. The film was originally planned to be released on March 27, 2008, but because of the delay in the Digital Intermediate (DI) process, the film released on April 2, 2008. The film completed its 100 day run successfully in 25 centres. This is the biggest hit for Pawan kalyan after 7 years of gap.

Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan) is the son of a poor farmer. While his brother dies at an early age with a heart disease, his parents commit suicide after a crop loss. This forces him to take a decision to retaliate against society, and he joins the naxalite movement.

After a fierce encounter, Sanjay surrenders to the police, and continues his education. He falls in love with a police officer’s (Prakash Raj) daughter Indu (Kamalini Mukherjee). However, he cannot convince the officer to let him get married to his daughter, and she gets married to an NRI.

Again, Jyotsna alias Jo (Parvati Melton) and Bhagyamati alias Baagi (Ileana) enter his life. While Sanjay rejects Jo outright, Baagi makes several attempts to win his love, and finally succeeds. But her father does not accept the alliance, as he knows well that Sanjay is a former naxalite.

At this juncture, Damodar Reddy (Mukhesh Rushi) enters the scene, as he bears a grudge against Sanjay for thrashing his second son. Reddy fixes Baagi's marriage by force with his second son. Does he succeed in performing the marriage? How does Sanjay stop the marriage? How is Sanjay able to express his love towards Baagi? Does Baagi’s father accept their marriage? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.
