Movie Review

Inkheart is an upcoming 2008 fantasy film based on the 2003 novel of the same name. The film is slated for release on March 19, 2008, with Iain Softley directing.

The author of the book on which the film was based, Cornelia Funke was quoted as saying that "we had our second screening (summer 2007), which went well, and I really loved the movie, but they are still changing things, especially at the end."

As with the production of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian the production progressed very slowly. The American release was originally slated for Christmas 2007, but then was changed to March 19, 2008.

On November 7 2007 it received a rating of PG for fantasy adventure action, some scary moments and brief language.

Meggie's father, Mo (Brendan Fraser), has a wonderful and sometimes terrible ability. When he reads aloud from books, he literally brings the characters to life. Mo discovered his power when Meggie was just a baby. He reads so lyrically from the book Inkheart that several of the book's wicked characters end up blinking and cursing on his cottage floor. Then Mo discovers something even worse--when he reads Capricorn (Andy Serkis), Basta (Jamie Foreman), Dustfinger (Paul Bettany), and his marten Gwin, out of Inkheart, he accidentally reads Meggie’s mother, Resa (Theresa) (Sienna Guillory) into the story.

Meggie (Eliza Bennett), is 12 years old, but knows nothing of her father's bizarre and powerful talent, which is the power to read characters out of books. But Meggie is annoyed that Mo still refuses to read to her. Capricorn, a man who burns books for pleasure and being so evil that he would "feed a bird to a cat on purpose, just to watch it being torn apart", has searched for Meggie's father for years, seeking to twist Mo's powerful talent to his own dark means. Finally, Capricorn realizes that the best way to lure Mo to his remote mountain hideaway is to use his beloved daughter Meggie as bait. While Meggie discovers Capricorn's ruthless plan, she too, can pluck people from pages and bring them to life...but it take a while for her to realize her power.

Throughout the movie, Meggie realizes the horrible secrets that await...
