In the Cut is a 2003 American/British/Australian crime/erotic thriller film written and directed by New Zealand director Jane Campion. It is based on a Susanna Moore novel, and has been released on DVD. The Unrated version has gained notoreity for a scene of appearant unsimulated fellatio that is witnessed by Meg Ryan's character, although it was later revealed in the commentary that the actress performed it on a dildo. Based on the best-selling novel by Susanna Moore, In the Cut is a psychological thriller in which Ryan plays a lonely New York City woman, who discovers the darker side of passion after becoming involved with a tough homicide detective, who is investigating a series of murders in her neighborhood. As the plot develops, she begins to think the detective to be the murderer, but she remains curious and passionate. The film has a far less disturbing ending than the novel. |
