In Search of a Midnight Kiss
Movie Review

In Search of a Midnight Kiss is an award-winning American independent comedy/romance written and directed by Alex Holdridge. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007 and since has played at festivals around the world from Mill Valley, Chicago and Los Angeles in the U.S. to London, Edinburgh, Sarajevo, Istanbul, and Thessaloniki outside the states. It has been released in theaters in the UK (Vertigo Films). It began its U.S. theatrical release on August 1, 2008 at the IFC Center in Manhattan (distributed by IFC Films) and was scheduled for a wider release on August 8, 2008. Greek theatrical release is scheduled for July 25 (Seven Films). Release dates for other countries worldwide are forthcoming.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss follows the plight of Wilson (Scoot McNairy), a 29-year-old man who has just suffered through the most miserable year of his life. A new arrival to the City of Angels, Wilson ends up alone and penniless as New Year's Eve rapidly approaches, and avows to lock his doors, pull his blinds, and climb into bed - until best friend Jacob (Brian McGuire) talks him into posting a Craigslist personal ad. In seemingly no time at all, the message leads Wilson to Vivian (Sara Simmonds), a freewheeling young woman utterly determined to be with the "right" man at the stroke of midnight. She soon leads Wilson on an eventful and colorful trip through the nighttime streets of L.A. that he will never forget - and that leads to a heartfelt emotional connection between the two.

The cast and crew are all friends from Austin, Texas who now live and work in Los Angeles, California. Anne Walker-McBay, who has produced nearly all of Richard Linklater's films from "Slacker" to "A Scanner Darkly," worked as Executive Producer on the film. Scoot McNairy played the lead in the film and also co-produced with Seth Caplan (Flatland, Cassidy Kids).

Okkervil River and Shearwater are bands also hailing from Austin who contributed to the movie's soundtrack. Songs by the bands Sybil, Paleo, Brian McGuire, The Family Band, Hot Club of Cowotown and the Scorpions are utilized extensively in the film.

Robert Murphy, cinematographer for the film, also played the part of Jackmo, the angry ex-boyfriend. He also wrote and sang two songs in the movie.
